What Causes Cherry Angiomas?
Cherry angiomas—also called red moles or Campbell de Morgan spots—are common benign skin growths that tend to increase with age. They are most frequently seen in adults over the age of 30. While the exact cause is not fully understood, several factors are strongly linked to their development:
1. Aging
The most recognized factor is natural aging. As the skin matures, small blood vessels can cluster near the surface, leading to cherry angiomas.
2. Genetics
Cherry angiomas often run in families, indicating a genetic component. If your parents have them, you’re more likely to develop them as well.
3. Hormonal Changes
Fluctuations in hormones—especially during pregnancy, menopause, or hormonal therapies—may contribute to their appearance.
4. Environmental & Chemical Exposure
Certain chemicals, long-term sun exposure, and external irritants may influence the growth of these vascular lesions.
Are Cherry Angiomas Dangerous?
No—cherry angiomas are non-cancerous and harmless. However, some people choose to remove them for cosmetic reasons or if they appear on highly visible areas.
Alma Harmony VascuPen Disclaimer & Skin Type Eligibility
The Alma Harmony VascuPen is an advanced laser solution designed to treat vascular lesions such as cherry angiomas. However, it is only recommended for Fitzpatrick Skin Types I–III to ensure safe and effective results.
Why Skin Types IV–VI Are Not Ideal Candidates
Darker skin tones naturally contain more melanin, which absorbs laser energy at higher levels. This increases the likelihood of side effects, including:
- Burns or heat injury
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
- Hypopigmentation (light spots or loss of pigment)
- Scarring or prolonged irritation
These risks make the treatment unsuitable for Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV–VI.
Consultation & Safety Guidelines
Before treatment, every client undergoes a professional skin evaluation to confirm eligibility and reduce the risk of side effects. If you have a darker skin tone (Types IV–VI), your provider may recommend safer alternative treatments that are specifically designed for higher-melanin skin.
By booking this treatment, you acknowledge the following:
- You understand the laser’s limitations based on skin type.
- You recognize the potential risks associated with higher melanin levels.
- You agree to receive a consultation prior to treatment if you have concerns about eligibility or safety.
